The 9th sale of the 2026/27 wool selling season took place today, with 6 050 bales on offer.
Although 63% of the offering tested 20 micron and finer, only 45% of the offering consisted of long length wools. Sustainably certified wools comprised 52% of the merino wools on offer.
The market continued to experience downward pressure in line with the Australian market trend this week, with the stronger ZAR against the US$ adding to the difficult trading environment. An overall sales clearance of 94% was achieved on today’s sale.
The all-merino indicator declined by 2,5% to close on R241,89 p/kg, with the certified indicator decreasing by 2,8% to close on R247,25 p/kg.
A highest clean price of R352,69 p/kg( R265,00 p/kg greasy) was paid for a 3-bale lot of 15,9-micron merino wool. The highest greasy price achieved on today’s sale was R280,00 p/kg(R351,45 p/kg clean).
The Australian market continued its decline this week and ended 1% (AU$) down from the last sale held on Wednesday, 14 October.
The lower wool receivals declared to date is due to a delay in the receivals at brokers stores and should return to normal later in the season.
The major buyers on this week's sale were G Modiano SA (1 203), Fibreflow Trading (1 025), Stucken & Co (935) and BKB Pinnacle Fibres (820).
The next sale will take place on 28 October 2026, where approximately 5 448 bales will be on offer.
