Amidst the pressure of the stronger SA currency of 2,4% against the US$, the market delivered a solid performance, with the average market indicator gaining 2,2% from the previous sale, to close on R166,78 p/kg. The market returned a very positive 4,7% in US$ terms.

Cape Wools Market Report

The 7th sale of the 2021/22 wool season took place today, with a total offering of 5 843 bales. The average market indicator (which includes RWS accredited wools) eased by 1% from yesterday’s sale, to close on R167,57 p/kg, with an overall sales clearance of 96,1%.

The market delivered a very good performance, whilst the SA Rand traded 2% stronger against the US$. The market gained 1,7% from the previous sale to close on R160,22 p/kg and traded a significant 3,8% higher in US$ terms.

Wool Market Slumps

After a 1 week recess, a larger offering of 13 459 bales was available for sale in South Africa this week. An amount of 550 bales was withdrawn prior to the sale. The market eased by 4% to close on R157,52 p/kg, with an overall sales clearance of 95,65%.

Port Elizabeth – A smaller volume of 5 966 bales were on offer on the 31st wool sale of the 2020/21 selling season. The market delivered mixed results amongst the micron categories, but ultimately closed up 0.9% from the previous sale on R164.14 p/kg.
