published 29 Sep 2021

Port Elizabeth – The 7th sale of the 2021/22 wool season took place today, with a total offering of 5 843 bales.
The average market indicator (which includes RWS accredited wools) eased by 1% from yesterday’s sale, to close on R167,57 p/kg, with an overall sales clearance of 96,1%.

More than half of the offering consisted of long wools in the 20 micron and finer category, with sustainable wools comprising 30,8% of the merino wools on offer.

There was good participation from the buying houses on today’s sale, with the top four buyers taking up very similar volumes.

The finer microns ended the day in the red, with the premiums achieved for RWS wools in the stronger micron categories resulting in positive returns within these micron groups. The SA currency traded at very similar levels as yesterday, ultimately closing slightly stronger by 0.1% against the US$, with the market delivering a 0,78% decrease in US$ terms.

The Australian market fell by 2.3% (AU$) today from their previous sale held on 22 September, with reduced buyer sentiment resulting in higher passed in rates.

A detailed split of the sustainable offering, as well as the RWS premiums for a specific selection, is now provided further down in the market report.

The major buyers on todays sale were: Standard Wool SA (1 223), Tianyu SA (1 216), Lempriere SA (1 118) and Modiano SA (1 070).
